The Nodule Of Perfection: Why Some People Are More Effective Than Others

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

“I imagine entrepreneurship being this sort of “unknown juju” from the perspective of outsiders looking in. But, it really isn’t. It’s a relentless crusade to taking perfection to the ends of the earth.”

Having started a few companies, and been successful, I often get the “how did you do it” question, or similar inquiries into how I managed to create X outcome in X time.

The answer of course is always the same: Insanely high standards for myself, tireless forward motion, relentless renewal of optimism (even in the face of repeated failures), and a lot of getting my fingernails dirty in the streets grinding.

But there’s something implicit in that explanation that I want to expand upon that I think will align with a lot of other entrepreneurs and productive people out there.

“Because why some people are more effective than others, in the realm of startups, entrepreneurship, and corporate, isn’t a magical universal alignment of stars for the person in question, but rather a few major things done right, over and over again.”

Having built a successful company (and launched various other ventures), and spent enough time with people who win, whether friends or following the words of those giants that stand before us, one thing is extremely apparent to me when it comes to winners.

They have an unwavering drive in their brains that makes them excessively detail oriented, approaching virtually everything with such a high degree of granularity, that they actually get to the bottom of shit. That’s how you make change in the world. You understand it.

But what makes such a person behave this way is simple: standards. Having a “perfection nodule” in their brains, that makes them approach everything they do, with an unrelenting sense of seeing it all through. Not missing any details. Not skimping on one important piece of data. Not letting anything go, pass, disappear or go away undiscussed.

It’s an excessive capacity to apply extremely high standards to all aspects of their business world, whether its in the hiring sector, the bizdev sector, the R&D sector, or the countless other sectors an entrepreneur or productive executive finds him/herself in.

— what other people do —-

“I think, to really highlight why some people are more effective than others at launching companies, or achieving in the corporate world, we have to look at exactly what not to do. We have to look at what normal people do.

Normal people don’t punctuate emails well. Normal people don’t follow up on things they know they should follow up on. Normal people don’t spellcheck their Facebook messages. Normal people don’t go out of their way to make sure something is done right the first time.

Normal people let it go. They shrug important things off. They don’t pursue their suspicions and aggressively try to confirm or deny their theories on the world. Their possible fast tracking life speeds right by them, leaving them in the dust.

Normal people are overtly vague. To the point of nausea. They do not feel the need to explain the necessary details of a situation, which most of the time, is pure laziness. When you ask them a question, they give you meaningless surface responses. They might as well have said nothing at all.

And we all have come across these types of people. People that seem just not to give a shit. People who’s standards are extremely low. The same type of people that will drive around with the same mound of bird shit on their car without cleaning it for two weeks. The same types that WAIT to get everything IMPORTANT done, if they get it done at all.

These are the types of people that will let an opportunity completely slip by, because they don’t believe they can attack it, or it just seems too overwhelming.

“These are people with low standards. People that lack the perfection nodule in their brains to relentlessly get answers, pursue outcomes, and exploit details.

And this is exactly what you have to do the opposite of, if you want to make it anywhere in this world.

Have the respect for yourself to execute the highest standards possible. That doesn’t mean you have to be an asshole. It means you have to be concise and surgical.

It doesn’t mean you have to be OCD, but you should be a bit annoying to people that want to let the details lay by the wayside.

It means that whatever it is you’re doing, whether an email to a business inquiry, an answer to a question, or a full fledge 3 week R&D project on a single detail of your product (or exploration of a detail of your business life that needs development), you approach it all the same. With precision, perfection, and a relentless pursuit of finding, knowing, and conveying the details.

I AM saying in fact, that to get major things done consistently, you need to be just a total pain in the ass type of person, who’s assertions are aggressive, and who’s follow up is bulletproof.

You need to NOT let little things go. You need to NOT extinguish the idea in your mind that you can and should make something better. And you need to LISTEN to your better half in your mind, that tells you to go the extra mile to make something you’re doing, awesome.

You have to be amazing. Not great. Outstanding, not pretty good. Preposterous, not passive.

It means you should approach life with an unyielding sense of doing things the right way, the first time.

Passiveness is for losers. People without the drive and desire to be aggressive. And that is no way to approach what you want in life.

To be effective in this world, your standards have to be super high. To win an olympic gold medal, you have to strive to be the best of the best.

You can’t expect to drive the Benz, make the big bucks, and continue building awesome companies (or pursuing awesome corporate outcomes) if you’re a run of the mill, average.

It just doesn’t work that way. When you drive by, look at, are around, and or experience the big leaguers, just know that these are the type of people that have endless desires to hack the world of every known detail, with an absurd sense of focus, and nearly impossible standards for how they perform. Happy hunting everyone.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][ultimate_info_banner banner_title=”Get our Flagship Smart Drug!” banner_desc=”The nootropic for elite achievers.” button_text=”Get Optimized” button_link=”url:https%3A%2F%2Flivecortex.com%2Fproduct%2Fcortex-gen-1%2F||target:%20_blank” banner_image=”11512|https://livecortex.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/bottle_label_product_size_mini6.png” title_font_size=”21″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
