Study deems Oxiracetam safe to take for a year straight

In the nootropics community, we’re always looking for good validation on the compounds we take. Particularly, how safe they are to take long term.

We want validation. We want to be sure, and rightfully, the scientific community that may look at nootropics skeptically, are always throwing their opinions in the mix that we need to have more studies behind these compounds.

Well this study truly makes a great case for, at the very least, the safety profile of continuously taking Oxiracetam at large quantities for exactly 1 year.

Some salient points from the study

  1. The group receiving Oxiracetam in the study had major improvements in cognitive function over the 1 year timeframe, compared to placebo groups. (Win for Oxiracetam)
  2. Quoted directly from the study: “Neither severe adverse events were observed during the whole study, nor changes in routine laboratory examinations.” – This indicates that liver enzymes particularly, something folks have concerns about with taking nootropics, were perfectly normal throughout this time frame.
  3. Initially, the group receiving the Oxiracetam took it for 90 days, and then a percentage of them were recruited to take it for an additional 9 months, totaling a year. All of their labwork was perfectly normal, and they experienced improvements in cognitive function.

What this study doesn’t tell us

  1. That Oxiracetam is safe to take for more than 1 year.
  2. That Oxiracetam is safe to take for 1 year, if your cognitive functions are up to par. We can assume that the elderly have a bit more atrophy and frailness to their organs and systemic functioning, and therefore a year of Oxiracetam in a young healthy person would equally be harmless (or more so), but that’s just conjecture.
  3. Though Oxiracetam is anecdotally useful for people without major cognitive issues, it does not seem apparent, at least within the very limited confines of this study, that people with good cognitive functioning would realize improvements in cognitive functioning while taking Oxiracetam. I think that is a very limited way of looking at things, because the anecdotal reports on Oxiracetam are quite powerful. Folks get a good response from it, me included.

General Oxiracetam dose/stacking instructions

  1. The dose range on Oxiracetam, or “OXR” for short, is 200-1500MG. Some people get great results from small doses, some, depending likely on the degree of malfunction they have within the cholinergic system of the brain, will require higher doses.
  2. Oxiracetam usually is taken with a choline source, to put up with the burning of acetylcholine that Oxiracetam induces. My personal suggestion would be 75-200MG of Alpha GPC.
  3. Oxiracetam stacks well with every other major racetam in the book: Aniracetam, Piracetam, Nefiracetam, Coluracetam, Fasoracetam, Phenylpiracetam, and Pramiracetam.
  4. Generally, as we lay out in the Racetam God Guide, if you’re going to take Oxiracetam with other racetams, you want to regular dose the Oxiracetam, and then medium to low dose everything else. A good example might be: 1000MG Oxiracetam, 5MG Noopept, 200MG Alpha GPC, 5MG Vinpocetine, 400MG Aniracetam.

And that’s all she wrote! We’ll discuss a lot of this in the video below, and my take on all of this in video form. Enjoy.
