There are a lot of practical applications for the class of dietary supplement called “nootropics.” Nootropics, (the more effective ones) have the ability to cross the blood brain barrier, to directly effect cognition, and impact it in positive ways. All types of different people use nootropics. Entrepreneurs, executives, venture capitalists, people above the age of 50, politicians, other types of leaders, poker players, college students, and hosts of other types of people. Nootropics help to restore the brain’s capacity to do its work. They can take you back into balance, when you’ve depleted certain neurotransmitters. They can bring you back into energy, when you’re depleted your gas tank for the day, and they’re incredibly useful for all kinds of people to get the mental edge.

Who Can Benefit From Nootropics?

  1. Entrepreneurs benefit from nootropics. Being an entrepreneur is hard. Your number 1 asset in being able to engage your brain to successfully execute on the multitude of tasks required of you to build a business is your brain. It’s your energy. It’s your critical thinking. It’s your motivation and drive, and it’s your intellect. Entrepreneurs are some of the most fitting candidates for taking nootropics.

  2. Executives. The highly demanding life of an executive requires being fast on your feet, having exceptional problem solving skills, and the overall energy to muscle through hours and hours of sometimes tedious work. The corporate environment is extremely competitive, and often throws on you a disproportionate amount of work that is sometimes hard to handle. Your brain needs to be at its best.

  3. Venture Capitalists. VC’s, are individuals or firms that invest large sums of money into startup companies. The kind of analysis a venture capitalist has to do when making a decision on which companies to invest in is a mental workout in and of itself. Ultimately, it’s your brain working good that will allow you to identify the best business models, and entrepreneurs to put your money into. VC’s also sometimes play roles within the companies they invest in, and in many cases, use to be entrepreneurs themselves. They need optimal brain function for the task.

  4. Nootropic Experimenters. There is a class of people for whom nootropic experimentation is what they do. You can find a lot of them on the Nootropics forums in Reddit, and in the deep threads of places like Longecity.

  5. Startup Founders. Though entrepreneurs, startup founders are a class of their own. These types are in startup companies right now, building something from the ground up. The kind of mental energy and thinking skills necessary to make a startup work is insane, and nothing short of vast. Startup founders benefit greatly from taking nootropics to improve the systems of their thinking, to facilitate business outcomes.

  6. Everyday people experiencing deficits. Especially aged people. Over time, if you don’t keep up with replenishing depleted neurotransmitters, and keeping your brain in good shape, it atrophies. Memory gets worse, verbal fluency goes downhill, and critical thinking takes a backseat. People with memory, or other cognitive deficits can benefit greatly from taking nootropics.

  7. College students – There’s no doubt about it, college students can benefit greatly from nootropics and smart drugs. The sheer quantity of mental tasks that need to be engaged in learning, testing, and all the rest of the intense intellectual demand that takes place in college, is enough to warrant the use of natural (or man made) substances that help facilitate brain function.

But what isn’t talked about enough is how all of these classes of people can use nootropics as a second wind to get more done within the day. Let’s dive into this.

Nootropics Can Offer You a Powerful Second Wind

Whether you’re an entrepreneur, VC, executive, or anyone else in the above categories, there’s one inescapable truth about the demanding line of work you’re in: At 5-6PM, and sometimes earlier for vasts amounts of people, your capacity starts to fail you. Your memory, thinking abilities, motivation, and overall processing speed starts nosediving after hours of consistently plugging away at your craft, work, or to do list. It’s the inevitable truth of depleted neurotransmitters from constant use of your mental faculties throughout the day. Especially for people who are crashing hard from excessively abusing the various caffeinated beverages that flood these environments.

I am no different. I own 2 companies, and am engaged in running/growing both of those companies at all times, every day of the week. Whether it’s dealing with a parts vendor for my mobile services company, or it’s devising the next generation of the Cortex Nootropic, I’m always up to something. And come a certain time in the afternoon, I start to wane in my ability to be my perky, upbeat, productive self. Now – I try to minimize that by eating and sleeping well, but sometimes it’s inevitable. Crashes happen, whether blood sugar, sleep, or neurotransmitter related. And sometimes, for many people, it’s all 3 of those things.

So I’ve realized that a great tool in my toolshed is the power of a highly targeted nootropic concoction, that deals directly with the neurotransmitters I depleted, or corrects the problem I’m running into with mental energy and capacity. And great places to start are in hitting the basic neurotransmitter precursors. You want to focus on a group of brain chemicals called the “catecholamines,” which consist of dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine, and the cholinergic system, which consists of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. You do that by taking the various precursors to those neurotransmitters in supplement form.

For the catecholamines: L-Tyrosine, and N-Acetyl-L-Tyrosine are my go to’s, with L-Tyrosine being the leader there. The latter tends to absorb to quickly and make me a bit anxious, whereas the body regulates L-Tyrosine a bit better. The acetylated version of it crosses the blood brain barrier in short order and that isn’t always optimal.

For Acetylcholine: Cortex Nootropic (Gen1), CDP Choline, Alpha GPC, Alcar (acetyl-l-carntine) to a lesser extent, and (using with care and granularity) things like Centrophenoxine and DMAE.

That strategy alone, will target the neurotransmitters depleted throughout the day of working, and contribute to a second wind of energy and mental capacity to head into your second phase of work, to get more done. Neurotransmitter levels aren’t something you can (easily and readily) test at accurate levels. Unfortunately, you have to go by how you feel, but you should approach replenishing these two systems in a way that creates balance. Too much of either of them (acetylcholine, or the catecholamines) can cause undesired side effects like anxiety, brain fog, and hosts of other issues. You have to dial in your dosage just right, and remember that less is often more with nootropics. Let me illustrate the point a bit further by giving you some insight into one of the beta testers of Cortex Generation 1.

An Entrepreneur Getting a Second Wind

A good friend of mine, real estate professional, and entrepreneur owns both a Co-working space in Bethlehem PA, and a number of properties around Eastern PA. He’s basically always working at some capacity. The guy gets up at the crack of dawn, and gets to work. His wife owns a separate business, which he takes part in sometimes, and runs his other various ventures all at the same time. By 5PM, on most days, as he puts it, he’s “smoked.”

The energy output for the day has gotten the better of him. He’s thought, and executed his way to failure. Mental failure. And it happens to the best of us (entrepreneurs and work-horses). But, in sampling Cortex Generation 1 over the last few months, one of the things that stands out to him is that at 5PM, where he’d normally be tired, ready to rest, and unmotivated to get any more work done, he sets forth, with all his armor, ready to tackle the challenges of being an entrepreneur. And does so boldly.

As a result, he’s getting more actual work done, more quantifiable results are coming, and he’s a lot happier with his performance. To top it off, he’s in his mid 50’s. He actually doesn’t show any signs whatsoever of cognitive decline, but a brain that’s been at it for 50 years can always use a good pick me up.

This “second wind” effect from nootropics is one of the best ways to take them. When your energy (and your reserves) are burnt up for the day, but you have more cognitive work that you’d like to get done, nootropics offer a way to muscle through that last bit of important work that you’d feel better about once you do.

Personally, in running two companies, nootropics have literally given me an incredible advantage in being able to execute. I can honestly say, with no reservation, I would not be where I am today, without nootropics. That’s because what determines how effective you are in life is sitting right between your shoulders. Optimize your brain, and you’ll optimize your career. It’s really that simple.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve used nootropics for that extra boost, that got me to crank out another 4 hours of meaningful work that helped me move the ball forward in one of my businesses.

Summing it up

To sum it up, nootropics can be used solely as a second wind for the second phase of the day of work. I often don’t take nootropics in the morning because I already have the energy and mental capacity to function optimally throughout the day. If I need that second wind later in the day, nootropics are a great way to boost brain function into the wee or late hours of the day. Whether used strictly as a second wind, or used in phases throughout the day, nootropics can definitely give an entrepreneur, executive, VC, corporate ladder climber, or anyone else, the extra edge to keep working.

Our energy sources are finite. Our brain’s capacity to function gets impaired with usage. We get tired. We start forgetting things, and we’re not able to work at our best at certain times. Restoration is the ultimate solution to these problems, and nootropics work in a reparative way. That, to me, is their main mechanism, whether you’re looking at them from a performance optimization standpoint, or a rescue mission perspective.

Grinding, and being hard at work depletes your engines, but if you have the recipe, any recipe, to turn your brain back on and work on repairing yourself, you can get back to work in short order, to continue kicking ass again.

After all, this is exactly what the world does with caffeine, but it’s not nearly as effective as highly targeted nootropic stacks to turn your brain back on something crazy. Smart drug up my friends.
