How Getting Mono Cured My Entrepreneurial Burnout (and why)

Entrepreneurial burnout is a real thing. It plagues many of us, and it’s nothing to brush away like it’s unimportant.

It can take you from being powerfully motivated to get the right things done, to being vacant, sullen, and empty in life.

But there is a way to stop it, and quite literally, it’s to stop. Stop everything. Completely unplug. I mean, fall off the map completely.

I did this recently, not by choice (because I’m a stubborn entrepreneur probably like you), but by necessity.

The infamous Mononucleosis erupted in my body like an explosively formed penetrator in Iraq. It wreaked complete havoc on my energy and productivity, and I was forced to literally lay in bed, and do absolutely nothing.

Spending weeks in bed, not even so much as thinking about business, my ventures, the future, or anything else, reset my brain something crazy.

“Going back in (once I started feeling better), my productivity, zest for entrepreneurship and business building, and motivation to take over the world reached unprecedented heights.”

Never underestimate the power of complete separation. Enjoy the video.

Also – it’s worth visiting this guy’s blog post about burnout, a web an iOS developer, to browse through the list of burnout symptoms that I think apply to all of us.
