Ep69: Nootropics for traumatic brain injury: Pramiracetam

In this podcast, we’ll break down one of the least talked about but significantly important elements of taking nootropics, traumatic brain injury.

There are many reasons people take nootropics, and among them are:

  1. Improving performance NOW
  2. Staving off neuro-degeneration
  3. Acute situations in which one needs to be verbally fluent
  4. Dating (see: using nootropics for optimization of dating)

But — what I think a lot of people forget about the ORIGIN of nootropics, is that they were/are used for people with cognitive impairments of various sorts, to make them feel “normal” again.

That some people require nootropic compounds, like Racetams particularly, just to feel like YOU or I feel on a daily basis, at baseline.

And in this podcast, we’re going to break down a particular study on Pramiracetam, which outlines that young males with traumatic brain injury or anoxia (a state in which the brain is deprived of oxygen), regain various memory functionality while taking 4o0MG of Pramiracetam continuously over an 18 month period.

The additionally interesting part of the study is that when the subjects STOPPED taking Pramiracetam for a month, they RETAINED their cognitive gains. Meaning: they took Pramiracetam for 18 months straight, had measurable memory performance enhancement benefits, and then STOPPED for a month straight, were measured again, and STILL carried their performance benefits.
